Tried this location the other day with my hubby. so happy that there is an original pancake house closer to the west side. This is definitely my favorite breakfast place!! Only con is there is usually a wait. but worth waiting for.
Must Try: potato omlette 49ers dutch baby (when you put you name of the waitlist tell them to start a dutch baby - takes about 30 minutes)
This is the location you go to if you want to avoid all the tourist making crazy lines at the Kapiolani location. Don't get me wrong, the Dillingham location does get busy, but it's much more manageable (at least the times I end up going).
There's only 1 thing that keeps me coming back to OPH, and it's the fourty-niner flapjack. You can think of it as a pancake with all of its air compressed out of it, or a pretty thick crepe. Either way, there's 3 of them, they are big, and they are gooey. Put all of that with some butter and syrup, and you got a meal you don't want to share with anyone else.
Aside from an array of other pancakes, waffles, and some specialties, OPH will offer your typical local breakfast dishes. The Portuguese sausages here are bigger than average, and I love the hash browns here (just think of thicker McDonald's hash browns).
Decor is old school. Reminds of the KC Drive in and Yum Yum Tree with their darker hues and use of wood.
Pancakes are the best on the island. They just have a very unique flavor like no other. Would definately choose this place for pancakes over ihop or koas any day.
You'll find the Original Pancake House squeezed in-between a bunch of drinkie bars - I never really noticed how many were in this strip mall until this morning.
Once we walked through the blackout tint door we were transformed to 1975. The decor is heavy on wood and the walls are papered with all-over prints of stuff like eggs, crockery and tea kettles. My friend said he almost expected to see a big wooden spoon and fork hanging too. (If you don't know, ask any Filipino about this favored wall ornament.)
Eating here was the perfect way to start Sunday. I had blueberry belgium waffles. The waffle was soft and fluffy and there was at least a 1/4 cup of blueberries. It was served with a melon-ball-sized scoop of butter and a 5-second squeeze of whipped cream. My first instinct was to push both off to the side however, in the end, I used at least 3/4 of both the butter and the cream. I ate almost the entire waffle and left without feeling gross and hating myself.
The coffee is a little weak but I'm sure I say that about every place that I eat at. What makes up for weak coffee are the servers who never let your cup go cold or empty.
My favorites: The poi pancakes (with either the tropical butter or the coconut syrup...depends on my mood), and the banana pancakes with coconut syrup. My kids stick to the buttermilk.
Service is always really nice so I can't complain about that either.
eh what can i say with this place its hard to say negative things about this because it feels like you are talking bad about your family. Its really a cozy little place to eat breakfast and you are surrounded with all your extended family. During weekends and special events I suggest you make reservations or take a patience pill :P
I went there today and it was not busy at all, there were only 5 tables full at that time and wrote my name down. I noticed the cashier was busy with ringing up customers but there were 4 other employees not doing anything, so I politely ask the cashier what the wait time would be and she was super grouchy! She snapped back saying, "didn't you see the line?" I was busy.. so I gave her what she deserved.
Her attitude was just unnecessary, she needed to take a break or a quick nap time is what she needed. But I could not enjoy the food when it came out. Her attitude just left a sour taste in my mouth that just didn't want to go away!
One of our favorite local diners, the pancakes is great! There's always a wait on weekend brunches so watch out. Otherwise, basic and dependably tasty breakfast fare.
I enjoy the Dillingham restaurant more than the Kapi'olani one. Kapi'olani staff seems jaded, lazy, indifferent, even rude. Maybe from dealing with too many tourists?
The Dillingham staff is friendlier. There's a more local, friendlier feel to the clientele, as well. The food is good, basic breakfast fare, and plenty of it. Not too fancy. Been a while since I tried their signature dish, Dutch Baby pancake, because it takes a while to make. It's a fluffy, souffle style pancake and about as fancy as it gets. One thing, the coffee is weak and overpriced. Skip it.
Comfort breakfast at its finest. Shared an apple pancake (called it in early), corned beef hash (house made), eggs and rice and coffee. The apple pancake came to the table fluffy and piping hot and absolutely delectable! Yummy! Corned beef hash was tasty, but a little to potato-y for my taste. I like a larger proportion of corned beef to potato (who doesn't?), but points for home made hash. Eggs were particularly fresh. Coffee was the only downer--only so-so. But I am totally satisfied and fueled up for the day. A definite place to return to again and again! Service was great too!

Great pineapple pancakes and Portuguese sausage. A must try while in HI!!!
Now this is what you call a pancake house!

When I have the urge for pancakes, I stop here!
